RBD coconut oil is made up of about 90% saturated fat. To make coconut oil 92 degree, one need to conduct hydrogenation process on RBD coconut oil. Hydrogenation is a chemical process that adds hydrogen to the unsaturated fatty acid cains. The objective is to turn unsaturated fatty acid into saturated fatty acid. Saturated fat has higher melting point than unsaturated fat. Therefore, the resulting hydrogenated coconut oil will have a higher melting point. Hence, the name coconut oil 92 degree.

To hydrogenate vegetable oil, you will need a metal catalyst, vacuum room, high temperature, and hydrogen. Nickel is usually the preferred metal catalyst. The metal will be removed from the final product. The first large scale production of hydrogenated vegetable oil was done in 1909 in Warrington, England, at Joseph Crosfield & Sons, Limited.

Application of Coconut Oil 92 Degree

Coconut oil 92 degree is great for products that need to be less sensitive to temperature change. For instance, lipstick or lip balm. It can be processed into soap bars as well.

Both oil has its own strength. CNO 76 is cheaper and has lower smoke point. It is great for softer products. CNO 92’s higher smoke point is perfect for products that requires hardiness in its texture when exposed to room temperature. For soap bar, both can be used but CNO 92 will create a harder bar.

What is Coconut Oil 110 Degree?

Coconut oil 110 degree has even higher melting point than coconut oil 92. The oil is perfect for harder food or baking goods. Coconut oil 110 degree is made of hydrogenated coconut oil mixed with hydrogenated soybean oil. Currently, our factory does not produce coconut oil 110 degree.

Coconut oil is a versatile oil with a lot of derivative products. There are more variations that the three types described above. Each oil type has their own specific use. We hope this article could give a glimpse of information and we wish you all the best in your business.
